Time Running Out to Take Survey of Colorado’s Political Temperature

Update: The poll is closed. Thanks to all 619 people who participated. Results are undergoing analysis and will be published next week. Time is running out. Only four hours remain for you to join the hundreds of other Coloradans who have shared their views on the political temperature survey. That's right: the deadline is today at 5 PM local Mountain time. Whether you somehow missed all the hype until now, or you are the type of person who loves to procrastinate, now is the time to make your views known. More information on the survey is available at Slapstick Politics. Stay tuned, as we plan to announce the results of the survey next week. … [Read more...]

Memo to My Fellow Mob: Stay Strong and Respectful Against Obama Care

Updated and brought to the top of the fold: Iowahawk makes the point much more effectively and much more humorously than I have. Please read ... and per usual, be sure to keep the liquids clear of the keyboard. [Update at bottom] A growing segment of the American public is angry and awakened about the Obama administration's sly attempt to socialize our nation's health care system. They're showing up to Congressional townhall meetings and expressing their displeasure. I am amused to watch the Left's increasingly unhinged reaction. The irony is so very rich, it's hard to capture it all. First, there's the Democratic National Committee going on the offensive calling you part of an orchestrated "mob" if you stand up vocally against … [Read more...]

J.J. Ament’s Entry Makes Two in Colorado GOP Treasurer’s Race

Rocky Mountain Right has the scoop: J.J. Ament today officially has thrown his hat into the ring as a Republican candidate for Colorado state treasurer. I took a few minutes a little while ago to chat with the newly-minted candidate himself. J.J. Ament stressed his "hands-on experience" in previous dealings with the treasurer's office, that he "knows where the waste and inefficiency is" and doesn't have to rely on the bureaucracy like incumbent Cary Kennedy has. He also said that Colorado needs the treasurer to be "a strong independent voice", and that Kennedy hasn't filled that role, either. … [Read more...]

Breaking News: Blogger El Presidente Announces U.S. Senate Non-Candidacy

(Satire Warning) Breaking news... El Presidente releases an important campaign-related announcement this morning: He is NOT running for the U.S. Senate in 2010. I heartily endorse El Presidente's non-candidacy. And for the three of my readers out there who might be wondering, yours truly is still carefully weighing the possibility of opening an exploratory committee to enter the six1,013,476-way GOP primary. Stay tuned.... … [Read more...]

Bill Ritter Tapdances Away from Cap and Tax: No Memo to Betsy Markey?

Our "new energy economy" Governor Bill Ritter went before a Senate committee and tapdanced his way around the question of whether he supports the Waxman-Markey cap-and-tax bill. (Yes, I'm late to the story. Yes, I'm hopping on the bandwagon. Yesterday was an important personal day away from blogging, but with a story like this one, better late than never.) El Presidente was quick to put up the video of Ritter's exchange with Senator James Inhofe, as well as the video of Senator Kit Bond explaining how the governor's highly-touted new "green" jobs are heavily subsidized by taxpayers: $71,000 per job. Michelle Malkin brought national attention to Ritter's refusal to endorse cap-and-tax. At American Spectator, Paul Chesser posted the … [Read more...]

Sitting Down with Dan Maes

I was pleased to have the opportunity this week to sit down for a half-hour one-on-one lunch meeting with Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes. It was a pleasant if too brief conversation. To sum up: The Evergreen businessman is unconventional for an unconventional candidate. What do I mean by that? Yes, he hasn't necessarily followed the traditional path toward a major party nomination for the state of Colorado's highest office. But he also brings a rare mixture of passion, confidence, humility, and realism to the contest. He is frank about the sacrifice his run has entailed for himself and his family, and I also believe him when he says he is deeply impelled to continue his quest for office. Pundits have all but written off … [Read more...]

Sign of Obama Care Desperation: SEIU Thugs Dispatched to Townhall Events

Update: It's not the SEIU, but I just received an email from the AFL-CIO with the heading "Right-Wing Mobs in Brighton", saying "All across the country, a small group of radical right-wingers are intent on disrupting congressional town hall meetings in an all-out effort to stop real health care reform. We need your help now to make sure our voices are heard over the unruly mob." Only my fellow, freedom-loving citizens in Colorado's 7th Congressional District can help fulfill their expectations. Though we also can show them who is vocal but civil. You didn't think the Left was going to let members of Congress sit down and listen quietly to the very serious concerns of their constituents about the proposed government health care takeover … [Read more...]

Beneath the Surface of Survey Results: A 2010 GOP Youth Ticket Emerging?

Last week we released the results from our mid-summer survey of Colorado's political temperature. In the meantime we've added some more analysis that suggests profiles of support for certain candidates. Without further ado, here's our amateur cross-tab analysis that raises the question ... Is there a 2010 Republican "youth" ticket emerging here in Colorado, and what are the implications? (click on the magnifying glass icon to zoom in, or on the top icon right for a full-screen view): … [Read more...]

Are Colorado Democrats Prepping for Another Raid on Pinnacol Assurance?

Back from technology-imposed blogging exile, Joshua has christened the new-look View from a Height with a terrific catch of Democrat state senator Morgan Carroll on a "fact-finding" expedition to prep the next round of attacks on the state's privately-funded Pinnacol Assurance. Both he and I find Carroll's response less than persuasive. What say you? … [Read more...]

Wrapping Up Colorado’s Well-Attended Rallies Against Obama Care Takeover

El Presidente at Slapstick Politics followed up Tuesday's top-notch coverage of the anti-Obama Care rally in Denver with links to Wednesday's action further north and south along Colorado's Front Range. Andrew Boucher has the lowdown on the Fort Collins showdown that saw more than three times as many activists out in opposition to the government health care takeover than their counterparts. Another source tells me that about 1,200 people showed up to protest Obama Care in Colorado Springs. You can find pictures from the event posted here. Makes you wonder if our elected officials are paying any heed. … [Read more...]
