Just What Did Colorado Ethics Watch Learn from Media Matters’ Demise?

Colorado Ethics Watch's Chantell Taylor has filed an especially frivolous complaint, reports Face The State. While a frustrating annoyance, it's also a badge of honor for Fort Collins city council candidate Andrew Boucher, who is running a tireless and effective pro-liberty campaign. The uncanny timing and sheer desperation of this complaint makes me wonder if Colorado Ethics Watch has been watching what happened to their state sister Media Matters (after all, they have the same rich Lefty sugar daddies as part of their common affiliation with the Colorado Democracy Alliance), and whether the group has observed the right lesson from its demise. Does Ethics Watch believe that the plug was pulled on Media Matters because the phony … [Read more...]

“Sleaziest” 527 Ad Exposes Union Payroll Abuses, Calls for Amendment 49

Sleazy ads by the Democrats' 527 group Accountability for Colorado? Say it ain't so (from the Rocky Mountain News editorial page):The sleaziest flier this season? Probably the one targeting Republican Kevin Priola, who's running for the District 30 state House seat in Adams County. It claims a judge "issued a restraining order against Priola out of fears that he posed a threat and imminent danger to the victim." Come to think of it, a second anti-Priola flier may be worse. It says that the "judge found [my emphasis] that Priola posed a threat and imminent danger to the victim." In fact, requests for temporary restraining orders are routinely granted just to be on the safe side until a hearing can be held. In this case, the person … [Read more...]

Buescher “Favored”? Deceptive Attacks on Cancer Survivor Say Maybe Not

Today the Rocky Mountain News highlights the hottest state legislative race on Colorado's Western Slope, as Republican challenger Laura Bradford faces down Democrat incumbent Bernie Buescher in HD55:"I think her chances are great," said Rep. Cory Gardner, R-Yuma, who was among Republicans who stopped in Grand Junction while on an RV tour of the state. "One thing she said was, 'Gov. Ritter will not be whispering in my ear what to do.' People loved that." Buescher, however, says he doesn't hew that closely to Gov. Bill Ritter. "They're going after me on some issues, but it seems to me the fundamental attack is that I'm too close to the administration," he said. "The fact is I pushed the administration as much as any Democrat in the … [Read more...]

Conservative Lesson from CoDA: Time to Latch on to Transparency Issue

We may never know just how authentic the "Educate the Idiots" document is (it's the word of a young, independent man with nothing to lose vs. a web of heavily-funded, Left-leaning organizations with their power and credibility at stake). But, as Jessica Fender's article in today's Denver Post demonstrates, the Colorado Democracy Alliance provides a teachable moment about the Left's sophisticated political organization, and how the conservative side has waited too long to wake up and get it. I am on the same page with Alan Philp on this one:A dearth of lasting conservative infrastructure and more limited resources mean Republicans won't see anything as sophisticated or coordinated for "some time to come," said Alan Philp, who led the … [Read more...]

The Denver Post and Me Both On Board for Campaign Transparency

In his Sunday column, Denver Post editor Dan Haley discussed "cloak-and-dagger" Democrats:The once-stealth cadre, united under the name Colorado Democracy Alliance, has not only heavily influenced state politics, it's become a model Democrats want to replicate nationally. Nothing they're doing is illegal, or at least it doesn't appear to be, but it has changed politics and policy-making in Colorado for years to come. Republicans last week could only stand by, slack-jawed and jealous. It was the type of operation they figured Democrats had. Only bigger. Politically speaking, the operation is genius, as it funnels money from wealthy donors — sometimes tax-free — to push political causes. But, ultimately, all of this skirting of … [Read more...]

Isaac Smith, Whistleblower on “Educate the Idiots”, Tells His Story

A week ago, I noted that Colorado's high-powered Lefties were fighting back to "Educate the Idiots" about the authenticity of documents that shine an unflattering light on their Colorado Democracy Alliance (CoDA). Of course, since then we've seen the "whistleblower" Isaac Smith come forward to vouch for the documents he provided. Listen to Isaac tell his story to Jon Caldara, guest host for Mike Rosen, on 850 KOA earlier this week. The Left is assailing Isaac's character as a "thief" and a "forger". Judge for yourself, but it sure sounds to me that this guy has a lot less vested interest than the members of the CoDA who look bad. The "Educate the Idiots" memo - the only document that CoDA denies the authenticity of - just happens to … [Read more...]

Joshua Sharf Confronts Opponent about “Educate the Idiots” Campaign

Now that the whistleblower has come forward to verify the authenticity of the Left-wing Colorado Democracy Alliance documents, including its "Educate the Idiots" campaign, here's a video of Republican state house candidate (and longtime blogger) Joshua Sharf posing the issue to Democrat opponent Lois Court at a recent televised forum: And if you want to know more about what issues distinguish the two candidates, here's a glimpse at their closing statements: It's an uphill battle for Joshua to win this race in a majority-Democrat district, but he is making an impression as an aggressive and articulate candidate for rock-solid conservative Republican principles. Party leaders should take notice. … [Read more...]

Time to “Educate the Idiots” about the Authenticity of CoDA Documents?

A controversy is brewing over the authenticity of the Colorado Democracy Alliance (CoDA) documents, specifically the memo discussing their plan to "Educate the Idiots". Ironically, the satire blog by the same name has all the scoop on the controversy - here and here. Can't wait for Sunday's story in the Denver Post. It looks to me like the Lefties in CoDA are scrambling hard to cover up. We'll see. … [Read more...]

Ted Trimpa: Extortion Negotiator, Gill Adviser, “Educate the Idiots” Insider

Denver attorney Ted Trimpa is being touted as the great mediator, the great savior, in negotiating a compromise between business and labor to remove four anti-business initiatives from the ballot. Who's doing the touting? Why, the liberal Dead Governors blog, of course:For those of you who don't know about Hogan and Hartson's Ted Trimpa, well, you should. He's the one who brought this pact, the most unlikely partnership since Referendum C, together, helping reinforce his growing waterwalker mystique. It's also true that labor wasn't really looking forward to taking the blame for the potentially serious unintended consequences of a couple of these proposals. The infusion of cash to fight the anti-labor initiatives will help, as will the … [Read more...]
