Snow is on the ground, but the Major League Baseball regular season is here. Hopes are renewed. Leading up to the season, Michael at Best Destiny has featured his takes on the best baseball movies ever. I largely concur with his opinions. As a Detroit Tigers fan, I consider myself sufficiently humbled after last year's crash from the plateau of high expectations -- a crash of epic proportions. This year the team looks somewhat different, definitely younger, and based on significant uncertainty in the bullpen could finish almost anywhere in the division. Face The State has the details about the Boulder Democrat:On the April 16 report, [state representative Jack] Pommer lists campaign contributions from registered lobbyists and special interest groups made on February 5. The date is significant, as it falls exactly a month into the legislative session. Under Colorado campaign finance law, it is illegal for lobbyists or special interest groups that lobby to give or solicit money for the campaigns of state office-holders while the legislature is in session. It seems almost certain that Democrat Senate President Peter Groff has tried to remain mum about the news of his impending departure to join the Obama administration in Washington to avoid distraction from an especially difficult budget process in the state legislature this year. Unfortunately, Congressman Ed Perlmutter is on the earmark bandwagon. His requests for my hometown of Arvada were: $6,000,000 - Garrison St flood control $600,000 - Wadsworth Trail $1,400,000 - 56th Avenue bypass $2,600,000 - Clear Creek Overflow project These sound like fine projects that need funding, but they aren't a federal concern. Instead of using federal funds in this way (raiding our savings accounts through inflation and our wallets through taxation), Ed Perlmutter should leave us to solve local issues locally. … [Read more...]
