Better than Earth Hour

Blogging from Chicago... The silly publicity stunt known as "Earth Hour" is coming to a close here in the Windy City, while it's about to start back home in Denver. Instead of participating in this self-absorbed deception, I'm joining Tim Blair in celebrating "The Hour of Power" (H/T Slapstick Politics). Not only are all the lights on here, and the computer running (of course), but so is the television (March Madness) and the room heater. It's also a good time to recharge the cell phone. One of my new friends here, Jeff from Louisiana Conservative, also has some advice for liberals who are serious about tonight's event. … [Read more...]

McCain’s Appearance in Denver

The most thorough reporting on Republican Presidential candidate John McCain's stop in Denver yesterday can be found at Slapstick Politics. In one key passage El Presidente writes:So when the Democrats and the left target Senate candidate Bob Schaffer for comments he made about Sen. McCain last year that appear critical, ask them how they will handle their party's own squabbles, name-calling, and vitriol. If Schaffer can't offer his opinion and then change/modify/alter it, then it will be tough (even for Democrats) to see either Obama or Clinton offering their support for each other, once the nomination is decided. And the attacks we've seen between those two this primary season make any tension between Schaffer and McCain pale in … [Read more...]

Putting Iraq in Perspective

Today's lead editorial in the Wall Street Journal puts our five-year-long war in Iraq in perspective - surveying where we've come from, where we are today, and what the near future portends. The editorial, which deserves perusal from beginning to end, concludes:In our March 18, 2003 editorial on the eve of Iraq's liberation, we supported the war while noting that "toppling Saddam is a long-term undertaking" and "the U.S. has never been good at nation-building." We wish we had been wrong on both counts, but our view has always been that nations shouldn't begin wars they don't intend to win. And newspapers don't endorse wars only to walk away when the fighting gets difficult. The U.S. sacrifice in Iraq has been honorable, our soldiers have … [Read more...]

Firsthand Reports on Today’s Moonbattery at the State Capitol

Two of Colorado's hardest-working, most creative bloggers sacrificed their time and their mental well-being to mingle at today's pathetic anti-war moonbat rally at the Colorado State Capitol. In addition to some pictures of the predictably naive and downright scary Leftist variety, El Presidente has an edited video of what you're glad to have missed, including the poet who wants to burn down Lockheed Martin. Also, you can find a ton more pictures and snide commentary from the Drunkablog's John Martin - it seems he has developed quite an unfavorable reputation with the Leftist wackos he highlights frequently. All in all, these two bloggers deserve our thanks, because it's better to watch the highlights from the comfort of your home … [Read more...]

Super Tuesday Post

Today is Super Tuesday and Caucus Day in Colorado. And that's why I find it surprising that my local blogging colleague Steven appears to be planning to sit out the Presidential vote:Politics as usual does not cut it for me. I need a candidate with true compassion, true conscience, true understanding, and the ability to reason. No candidate for President has demonstrated all these things that I can see. Not that these characteristics comprise anywhere near a complete resume for our nation's highest office. And trying to compare Hugh's show last night to push-polling? Not only absurd - I wouldn't say the MSM is push-polling for McCain - but sounds desperate, too, a lot like Huckabee's rhetoric of late. He's run as good a race as anyone … [Read more...]
