Lead on, Captain Ed!

Ed Morrissey of Captains Quarters - one of the premier blogs out there, for the uninitiated - is organizing a January 12 World Relief Day to help aid the victims of the South Asia tsunami. (Ed was on Hugh's show earlier to promote the effort.) How much of your take-home pay on January 12 can you donate to World Vision? - to make a real difference while also showing that this nation is not "stingy" like many European critics have falsely claimed. On a totally random different note... As we were walking into the office building this morning, Mrs. MountVirtus and I ran into Bob The Daily Blogster and his wife, who had come in to give blood. (The Bonfils Blood Center is on the 3rd floor of our building - The Independence Institute … [Read more...]

Good Monday Reads

In a "linker" sort of mood... couldn't help but do my part to make sure readers who stumble my way take a look at the following articles also posted on Real Clear Politics: Michael Barone, pre-eminent political analyst, tells the Bush administration to look into the latest scholarly contributions on non-violent protest to find another means to help bring down the Axis of Evil. John Fund at Opinion Journal has a great piece titled "How Daschle Got Blogged." Fund continues to be one of the big fans of new media and its potential. (If you don't believe me, check out the quote at the top of the page.) In his piece, Fund highlights the creation of a new political blog in anticipation of the 2006 Minnesota Senate race between … [Read more...]

Sajak Excoriates Hollywood

I received this in an e-mail from a credible source but haven't confirmed to see if or where it's posted on the Web. The following essay was written recently by Pat Sajak - yes, you know who I'm talking about - one of the few sane voices coming out of the entertainment community. He has an established reputation as a center-right Republican. While this has probably cost Mr. Sajak some invitations to cocktail parties, it has enabled him to make a speech or two on the Hillsdale College campus - my proud alma mater. Tired of spinning the wheel? Sit down and read what Pat Sajak has to say about Hollywood's reaction to the recent murder of Dutch film director Theo Van Gogh by an Islamic radical. … [Read more...]

Tensions in the Ukraine

One of Colorado's own, out of the country on a business trip, has found himself in the middle of a very tense situation. Thanks to modern technology, former Congressman Bob Schaffer is reporting on developing events in the Ukraine via his Blackberry. Russian President Vladimir Putin has backed a major candidate in the Ukrainian election and declared him the victor. Thousands and thousands of his opponents' supporters have declared the election corrupt and fraudulent, while the U.S. has urged Putin to back away from his premature anointing of his candidate's victory. Tensions are high, as the results of a free democratic election are in question. To keep up with developments, check out this page on the Denver Post's site. Clay has … [Read more...]
