Not the Best News for Prospective Home Buyers
News like this could put a damper on the search to buy a first home. But then again, since most of the prices listed in the article are outside of our range, it could be best just to ignore the story and move on. Motto for the cost-conscious House Hunter searching through endless listings and making visit after visit: "I only need to find one." And it ain't going to be in Cherry Hills... NOT EVEN CLOSE! … [Read more...]
“Real Men Don’t Eat Quiche” (but do they blog?)
It's a Friday, and I couldn't resist highlighting this Washington Tims story from yesterday on a new Harris survey that gives some not-so-shocking insights into what women want in their men. Some of the findings (with my comments in italics): • 75 percent of women said their ideal man buys his grooming products at a grocery store or drugstore, not a salon. A salon... what's that? • 72 percent of women said their ideal man spends his free time doing home-improvement projects. My wife prefers that I try to fix things when possible but realistically just hopes that I don't break anything in the process. • 41 percent of women said their ideal man spends his time watching sports. Yes, but only once in awhile... • 47 percent of women … [Read more...]
Harsanyi Hits the Airwaves Opposite Hewitt
Denver Post columnist David Harsanyi - and friend of the Rocky Mountain Alliance - will be guest co-hosting today on the Caplis and Silverman radio show: 630KHOW from 3 pm to 7 pm locally here in Denver. Doubtless the range of topics will include the ongoing cloud of controversy at the University of Colorado, still looking for a replacement for President Betsy Hoffman. The RMA has issued its endorsement of Hugh Hewitt to fill Hoffman's shoes. One ventures to ask whether Hewitt's name would come up in an on-air Harsanyi conversation, since his guest-hosting gig will be competing (mostly) in the same time slot. Even if you are a devoted Hugh listener, though, tune into 630 KHOW at least from 3 to 4 pm. If you can't do that, surely … [Read more...]
Blogfest Recap
I've just returned from the first-ever Blogfest, too frugal to bring my computer and pay the wireless fee - too forgetful to come up with my blogging password (it's preprogrammed into my laptop). What kind of future is there for a 28-year-old amnesiac? But I digress. First things first. The focus of Hugh's show was on Terri Schiavo. Are you frustrated as I am about this? I will continue to blog on the subject... trust me. But one way you can make your voice heard is at Citizen Link, hosted by Focus on the Family. Tell the Republican Florida state senators who turned their backs on evil to reverse their course of action. Tell the United States Congress to put aside procedural and partisan bickering and do something important: like … [Read more...]
The Madness of “King” George
Note to readers: This is satire. You can find the real story here. From "King" George's Fantastic Megalomaniacal Adventures: Chapter 15 ..."King" George did not take the news too well. He nearly tripped over his long black robes as he rose from his office chair and pounded his desk with his fist. "Where is my royal signet?" he shouted, the veins popping on his forehead. "Y-y-your what, your honor?" the young judicial aide replied nervously. "It's not 'your honor'! It's 'your Majesty'!" He stood erect, his shoulders thrown back and his nose elevated in pompous self-absorption. "Your Majesty... I'm sorry... I-I I must have lost the signet somewhere." "Never mind, then. Prepare a royal decree." "You mean a court … [Read more...]
Bloggers at Dan Rather Party
If you missed last night's Dan Rather farewell party hosted by the Independence Institute, you missed a good time. I saw and chatted with The Daily Blogster, fellow Rocky Mountain Alliance blogger and Rossputin (aka Ross Kaminsky) - if you haven't been to his site, check it out: he's got great resources and arguments on behalf of genuine Social Security reform. He also has a letter in today's Denver Post arguing against the proposed buyout of Ward Churchill's contract as a CU professor. If you are a blogger and were at the party last night and I missed you, I'm sorry. It was a pretty big turnout after all - and I'm not a noteworthy social butterfly. … [Read more...]
Hewitt After Hoffman’s Job
The ink has barely had time to dry on the story of CU President Elizabeth Hoffman's resignation, and uberblogger Hugh Hewitt has openly declared his candidacy for the job on his nationally-syndicated radio show. Having read off a list of qualifications that include his vast array of personal connections with the state's leading political leaders, Hewitt seems prematurely confident that he would have an inside track for the University of Colorado presidency. Well, this politically active, taxpaying Colorado citizen remains skeptical. Let's just say I need to see and hear more first. After Hoffman's ongoing media fiascos, we need a state university leader who can keep his snowmobile from crashing into trees. Then again, maybe a … [Read more...]
Libertarians, Immigration, and Food for Thought
An interesting, more in-depth read for a Monday morning: Robert Locke, former associate editor of FrontPage magazine, unleashes a full-scale intellectual assault against the libertarian philosophy on the pages of the American Conservative. It's a must-read for those who are interested in exploring the nuances and distinctions within the broader Republican, center-right coalition. While those on the left side of the political spectrum are well occupied in their own deep internecine squabbles, it is important to remember that the broad majority coalition has its own serious disagreements, too. … [Read more...]
