How Cybersecurity Affects International Business

Image Source: Pixabay As the world becomes more connected, business is no longer bound by physical borders. So much of today’s business is conducted online, and while this connectivity has given rise to many new opportunities, it has also brought along unprecedented threats. One such threat is the increased possibility of cyberattacks.  Studies show that few nations feel like they are protected from cyberthreats and have the capabilities to formidably respond to attacks. As stated in an article by Maryville University, a whopping 83% of the 3,400 ISACA (Information Systems Audit and Control Association) members across 129 countries agree that cyberattacks are in the top three threats businesses face today.  The … [Read more...]

Tips for Teaching Teenagers How to Drive

Driving is a pretty big rite of passage for teenagers. It increases their independence, widens the scope of their world, and propels them closer to adulthood. However, for parents, teaching teenagers how to drive can be a scary transition. Because so much can go wrong inside a vehicle, it’s important to keep safety in mind while teaching teenagers how to drive. Sober driving, increased awareness, and avoiding distractions are all ways to help teens stay safe behind the wheel.  In addition, it can be helpful that they know a little bit about how their car works in case they have mechanical troubles. It’s also good to help them feel confident behind the wheel, which can require a balance between pushing safety and not scaring them out … [Read more...]

A Practical Guide to Preparing for a New Baby

Having a baby is a big deal. It impacts your life in nearly every way. Babies bring new levels of responsibility, care, and concern and create a sense of purpose and meaning that no hobby or profession can deliver. In short, babies don’t just change the day-to-day routines and habits of their parents, they revolutionize the way they see the world. And, of course, as with all larger life transitions, going into the change with a little preparation and understanding can make a huge difference in how gracefully parents can adjust to the new way of life that lies ahead. Get Your Ducks in a Row While there are the obvious things like diapers and onesies that everyone thinks of getting when a baby’s on the way, there are actually quite … [Read more...]

Taking care of your home and your vehicle will make them withstand the test of time and can actually end up saving you a lot of money, time, and headaches in the long run. How to Make School Zones Safer for Kids

How to Make School Zones Safer for Kids

Image Source: Pexels Schools are supposed to be one of the safest places for children. With hundreds of kids concentrated in one place filled with staff who are focused on their education, parents are supposed to feel secure that their children are in good hands. However, the large number of people moving in and out of one place can often pose certain risks. Whether your child rides the bus, a bike, or walks to school, there are many factors that can influence how safe they are at any given time. This includes whether their school campus is well lit, if there are safe zone markings along the road, as well as low speed limits in case children walk into the street without warning. Safety in School Zones Depending on where you … [Read more...]

Concise Advice for Would-Be Teachers

Concise Advice for Would-Be Teachers

I was 25 years old, engaged to be married. Fallen off the graduate degree track, I’d left academia behind with a master’s degree and, amazingly, no college debt. Only a few years earlier, I had been convinced to pursue a Ph.D. in history and become a professor. History, or at least certain fields within history, remain a passion to this day. During my senior year, one professor after another counseled me to find another use for my pending history degree. My strong academic inclinations and track record were not sufficient to justify the politics of higher education, the exceedingly tight job market or the long wait it would take to get there. If you can’t teach college students, I thought, why not try high school? My brief stint in … [Read more...]

Our Kids Are Spending Too Much Time on Their Phones: What to Do About It

Image Source: Pixabay Anyone who remembers life before smartphones knows that there’s a life outside of them. Generation Z, on the other hand, is the first group of people growing up in a world where this technology never wasn’t. It should come as no surprise to find out that our kids are spending way too much time on their phones. It’s critical that we make an effort to understand exactly what it is that keeps the younger generation glued to their screens and consider what we can do to help them understand and experience life outside of technology. After all, if moms and dads already struggle to turn that screen off, how much harder is it to expect kids to do so? How Too Much Phone Time Is Hurting Our Kids There’s no doubt … [Read more...]

The Dangers of Self-Driving Cars and Their Threat to Safety

The Dangers of Self-Driving Cars and Their Threat to Safety

Image Source: Unsplash Picture getting behind the wheel of your new car, putting your destination into your GPS, and then taking a nap as your vehicle safely transports you there. Driverless vehicles have been featured in movies for some time now, but seeing them on our roads is completely different. While self-driving technology sounds convenient, it’s not yet a foolproof alternative to human drivers. The safety of self-driving cars is hotly debated. The technology used in self-driving cars is thought of as being less prone to error than a human operator, which would make them safer than a traditional car. On the other hand, there have already been reported accidents with self-driving cars. This raises some questions: Are autonomous … [Read more...]
