Kiki Traylor Responds
My observations on the CEA contribution to Kiki Traylor have stirred some attention through the grapevine. As a result, I fielded a phone call this afternoon from Senator Traylor with a very clear message: she does indeed support vouchers for low-income students, like the Opportunity Contract Scholarship Program that Senator Spence sponsored, Governor Owens signed, and the Supreme Court narrowly ruled unconstitutional. Furthermore, Senator Traylor said she made that fact clear in her interview with CEA. Two Noteworthy Trends
Two stories in today's Washington Times (free log-in required) highlight fascinating potential trends in this year's midterm election, one to cause concern for each political party's leadership. "Former Republicans Campaign as Democrats" shows upstart candidates in selected GOP-held districts are running to the right of the party incumbents, showing that uncontrolled government spending and uncontrolled immigration have harmed the party of Lincoln & Reagan. While the GOP has started to turn it around on these fronts, it will be interesting to see whether they acted in time and whether they will stay in shape starting in 2007. Anyone who ever takes a glance at the editorials of the Boulder Daily Camera has come to expect a certain strong Leftward slant. Rather than your ordinary pristine example, however, today's editorial follows a common-sense trail before veering sharply into the abyss of fuzzy logic and inflammatory rhetoric. In the piece, the Daily Camera editors criticize their fellow "progressives" who have applauded the deranged rantings of anti-Western Islamofascist Iranian dictator Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a valid criticism of President Bush. CMA Yes, FMA No
I may be considered anathema among many fellow Christians and social conservatives, but I agree wholeheartedly with fellow RMA blogger Michael (second time I've linked and quoted him in one week...wow!): I believe marriage is the union of one man and one woman. I believe marriage is a Sacrament, instituted by God, affirmed by Jesus, and not particularly subject to the whim of judges in the state of Massachusetts or any other state. However, the Constitution has granted the right and duty to decide licensing details to the several states. And it is in that forum that such decisions should be made--not Congress. Apparently, John Kerry has grown jealous of Howard Dean's record-setting propensity to say stupid things that help Republicans. I was going to write a detailed post about the stuffed shirt Massachusetts Senator's comments, but then I read Jonah Goldberg's column on the topic: Kerry insists he was making a joke about President Bush, not a joke about students who aren't smart enough to do better than the military. While there's virtually nothing in the text or video of his remarks to lend support for this, save for a wan smile he offered to the mute audience, it's possible that was his intent. Stephen Paulson of the Associated Press reports: Embattled GOP gubernatorial candidate Marc Holtzman said today a judge will have to decide whether he gets into the August primary, but he stopped short of saying he would file a lawsuit or seek a court order. Apparently the Holtzman campaign doesn't have much of a case to make an appeal with the Secretary of State. As the campaign's top deck starts to disappear below the water line, inquiring minds want to know: are there enough lifeboats on the RV? The Detroit Tigers have dispatched the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series with a convincing 8-3 victory at Comerica Park today. Great pitching beats "the greatest lineup ever." The $195 million Yankee nation payroll humbled by Motown's finest. My friends, I am all smiles on this fine day. Hats off to great Tiger pitching - Jeremy Bonderman, Justin Verlander, Joel Zumaya, Jamie Walker, Todd Jones, and "The Gambler" Kenny Rogers. In the last 3 contests the pathetic pinstripes mounted only 6 runs compared to Detroit's 18.
