More on Ritter the Bag Man

Over at Politics West, Joshua has some astute insights into where Gov. Ritter's executive order unionizing state employees will lead, including: The right to strike as an individual is virtually meaningless. The right to strike as a part of a union, in order to gain benefits under collective bargaining, is significantly more powerful. If such a right exists by Colorado Supreme Court decisions, then it cannot be overturned or even limited by note in an executive order. Such a note amounts to little more than a plea for AFSCME not to strike, at least not now, when it would be embarassing. Especially if you can't confine it to the Friday evening news cycle. The union would be able to negotiate with the state government as a whole, or with … [Read more...]

Sick Moonbat Spits on Fresh Graves of Murder Victims

Brought to you solely in the interest of heightening awareness of what kind of perverse hatred is out there... El Presidente is keeping close tabs on the twin violent shooting incidents at Christian facilities today, including the murder of Tiffany Johnson and Philip Crouse. The first - and fatal - attack occurred within close proximity of my home, and thus elicits a strong reaction in itself. Even so,most disgusting so far is the comment attached to El President's post, a comment written by an obviously deranged and perverted coward who gives a whole new meaning to "freedom of religion":So the shooter killed only two and wounded two others. Too bad he didn't have more time to get some more. Religious missionaries are very legitimate … [Read more...]

Cesar Chavez Success Revisits Merrifield’s Infernal Email

Congrats to Pueblo's Cesar Chavez Academy (and thanks to Colorado Charters for pointing out the accolades) - one of two charter schools nationwide to be featured as models of excellent education in a U.S. Department of Education documentary video. This must only make more painful the recent episode of an email sent by state Rep. Mike Merrifield (D-Manitou Springs) to Sen. Sue Windels (D-Arvada), indicating that there is "a special place in hell" for "charterizers" and the like. If one remembers, the specific context of the message was in response to efforts to replicate the highly successful Cesar Chavez Academy model in Colorado Springs. Democrat education committee chairman Merrifield summarily assigned people who wanted to try a … [Read more...]

More Unions Jockeying to Get a Piece of State Employee Action

From this week's edition of the always insightful & entertaining Education Intelligence Agency Communique:2) Colorado Public Employees Union Hooks Up with CWA. Organized labor in Colorado is about to become very volatile. The dust has yet to settle from Gov. Bill Ritter's executive order establishing "partnerships" between state agencies and labor unions, which is clearly the prelude to public sector collective bargaining. The plans of Colorado WINS, a coalition of SEIU, AFSCME and AFT, are in evidence in the new organization's founding documents, first released exclusively by EIA on November 19. But Colorado WINS will have some competition. The formerly AFT-affiliated Colorado Federation of Public Employees has dissolved and … [Read more...]

TNR: Down in Flames?

Wow, this punishing expose by Pajamas Media' Richard Miniter really lifts the lid on some serious problems at The New Republic. Things don't look good for Franklin Foer & crew. Scott Thomas Beauchamp looks to be more of a millstone around the bi-weekly liberal publication than was the devastating Stephen Glass saga of 1998 - primarily because its leadership wasted no time in dealing with the perpetrator of fraud. The "batten down the hatches" plan in action now, as highlighted by Miniter, is doing nothing to rescue their credibility. In fact, the ship of print may be quickly crashing in flames - reminiscent of a real disaster some 70 years past: Quite sad, really, because so much was avoidable on the part of TNR's leadership. So … [Read more...]

Harsanyi on Indoctrination into “Ritter’s Fantastical World”

On Monday I wrote about Gov. Ritter's plan to impose Greenhouse Global Warming hysteria on Colorado's public school classrooms. David Harsanyi's Denver Post column today explores the issue with more skilled and entertaining prose: Not long ago, Ritter assembled the P-20 Education Coordinating Council to foster a "seamless education system from pre-school to grad- school." Nowhere in the literature of the P-20 Education Coordinating Council - and I've looked far and wide - does it mention anything about the educational system being used to politically indoctrinate children. Yet, the Climate Action Plan says that "the state will work through the Governor's P-20 Education Council and others to make sustainability curricula become standard … [Read more...]

Take a Step Back in Looking at Murderer’s Upbringing

The journalistic peep show into the life of a murderer continues, as witnessed in this morning's Denver Post:The ultra-religious home-school curriculum that Matthew Murray ranted about in Web postings before he opened fire at two Christian centers forbids dating, rock music and "wrong clothes." It advises young men and women to live at home until their parents release them and counsels parents to choose marriage partners for their offspring. I suppose this information is interesting as far as it goes, but needs to be carefully qualified with three other vital insights, some of which are covered in the article: 1. The clearly misguided and inappropriate approach of the highlighted facets of this home-school curriculum represent the … [Read more...]

Write a U.S. Marine in Iraq

Let me encourage you to join in Project "Letters from Home," sponsored by fellow RMA blogger Jim of Thinking Right: I’m working with the 1st Battalion 1st Marine Regiment to get every one of their soldiers a letter of support from home. This is where you, my readers, come in to the picture; I need you to write these men and women, and then spread the word about the project to everyone you can. We need about 1000 emails in order to get one to every Marine. Please put letters from home in the subject line. Update: The address I’ve set up for project Letters From Home is letters@thinking-right.com I would encourage you to join me in participating in this easy-to-do, yet very tangible, means of support for some of the brave men and women … [Read more...]

Ritter’s State Union Proposal Deserves Scrutiny

The fact that Gov. Bill Ritter and his Democrat cohort wants to impose mandatory collective bargaining on Colorado state employees has been the Capitol's worst-kept secret for 2006. Today, the Rocky Mountain News quotes a leading Democrat legislator as confirming the rumors: Senate President Joan Fitz- Gerald, D-Coal Creek Canyon, confirmed she has heard Ritter's office may be working on a state government reform package that could include collective bargaining for state employees. And she spoke positively of the possibility. "Under the Owens years, the state employees did not fare well and they lost a lot of their benefits," she said. Ritter declined to talk specifics on a possible initiative. "We're working on how to best … [Read more...]
