No time to blog in depth today. I invite you to check out my youthful alter ego Eddie's blog, especially yesterday's very interesting post titled "Teachers Union Hearts Voucher Group? Hatfields-McCoys Kiss and Make Up?" Oh, the times, they are a-changin'.... … [Read more...]
New I.I. Video Exposes Another Danger of Obama-Style Health Reform
My employer, the Independence Institute, has released another great video. Find out in less than 90 seconds why Obama Care is like a game show you don't want to be a contestant on: I suppose introducing this video to you makes me "un-American" ... … [Read more...]
Obama Care Astroturfing
The Left has grown so mixed up in its own deceit and self-delusion -- as they try to distract from the substance of Obama Care's open door to socialized medicine and government rationing -- it's hard to know where to begin. How about trying to drive the meme that citizen protests against Obama Care are overwhelmingly corporate "astroturfing" (a phony grassroots movement). There are so many clear, pointed refutations I've come across that it seemed easier just to point them out to you here in a quick list format. If you can following the links, read all these and still continue to believe that the pro-liberty, anti-Obama Care crowd is guilty of "astroturfing" as much or more than the Left (show me the evidence), well, we won't mistakenly … [Read more...]
Sitting Down with Dan Maes
I was pleased to have the opportunity this week to sit down for a half-hour one-on-one lunch meeting with Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes. It was a pleasant if too brief conversation. To sum up: The Evergreen businessman is unconventional for an unconventional candidate. What do I mean by that? Yes, he hasn't necessarily followed the traditional path toward a major party nomination for the state of Colorado's highest office. But he also brings a rare mixture of passion, confidence, humility, and realism to the contest. He is frank about the sacrifice his run has entailed for himself and his family, and I also believe him when he says he is deeply impelled to continue his quest for office. Pundits have all but written off … [Read more...]
Breaking News: Blogger El Presidente Announces U.S. Senate Non-Candidacy
(Satire Warning) Breaking news... El Presidente releases an important campaign-related announcement this morning: He is NOT running for the U.S. Senate in 2010. I heartily endorse El Presidente's non-candidacy. And for the three of my readers out there who might be wondering, yours truly is still carefully weighing the possibility of opening an exploratory committee to enter the six1,013,476-way GOP primary. Stay tuned.... … [Read more...]
Join Steamboat Institute for Big Event with Grover Norquist, Michael Reagan
You haven't heard of the Steamboat Institute? Well, neither had I, until recently. But it's an organization co-founded by my Leadership Program of the Rockies classmate Jennifer Schubert-Akin, and it's dedicated to five principles: Limited Government Lower Taxes Free Markets Strong National Defense Individual Rights and Responsibilities The group is getting off to a strong start by hosting a conference on August 28 and 29 at the Steamboat Grand Hotel in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado, featuring some big name champions of the free market, limited government, pro-liberty movement, including: Grover Norquist Congressman Mike Pence, Indiana Michael Reagan Former president John Adams ??? Hey, I think seeing a … [Read more...]
Beneath the Surface of Survey Results: A 2010 GOP Youth Ticket Emerging?
Last week we released the results from our mid-summer survey of Colorado's political temperature. In the meantime we've added some more analysis that suggests profiles of support for certain candidates. Without further ado, here's our amateur cross-tab analysis that raises the question ... Is there a 2010 Republican "youth" ticket emerging here in Colorado, and what are the implications? (click on the magnifying glass icon to zoom in, or on the top icon right for a full-screen view): … [Read more...]

More information on the survey is available at Slapstick Politics. Stay tuned, as we plan to announce the results of the survey next week. … [Read more...]
Movable Type Bleg
So now the ongoing saga of Movable Type has a new twist. The upgrade from 4.21 to 4.261 did not go smoothly. Apparently there was a significant change at 4.23, so I'm going to try to roll back to 4.21, and then upgrade to 4.23 as an intermediate step before trying 4.261 again. If anyone out there has experience upgrading MT, I'd appreciate any help you can offer. I'm at jsharf-at-jsharf-dot-com … [Read more...]
Buck and Frazier Fundraising Numbers: Be Not Dismayed, but Pick Up Pace
Fundraising numbers are out in Colorado's U.S. Senate race. While the indecisive Michael Bennet has awed observers once again with his million dollar-plus cash intake, numbers for the two most highly-touted Republican challengers Ken Buck ($330,000) and Ryan Frazier ($140,000) were significantly less overwhelming. Given their different positions, statuses, and backgrounds, one cannot reasonably hold the same expectations for the three candidates. Still, at this point it's clear that the appointed incumbent Michael Bennet is winning this phase of the game. Frazier wisely is using the opportunity to transition from the exploratory committee phase to an officially declared campaign. His first quarter fundraising numbers doubtless have … [Read more...]
