Tell Congress to Read the Bill: Why Not Sign the Online Petition Today?

Transparency (or the lack thereof) is the name of the game these days. After the Generational Theft Act got shoved down our throats in such a hurry – with Congress having a matter of only a few hours to read the mammoth bill – supporting this idea is the most basic sort of common sense we can ask for in our representative form of government.

So go ahead and sign the online petition at Read the Bill, a very simple process that will take you one minute or less (H/T Soren Dayton). Why?

  • The Democrats in charge of Congress don’t want you to do it
  • It might help the Republicans find a backbone and champion real reform on the issue
  • It’s the right thing to do

For more on the government transparency movement (at least in Colorado), visit the COST website.

I WOULD LIKE TO START A PETITION ON A SUBJECT I KNOW TO BE TRUE…….
KNOW TO BE TRUE…..IT WOULD BE..
TO OUR SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES DEMANDING THAT THE ” READ THE BILL ” ..IF YOU DO NOT READ( A BILL) YOU MUST HEED AND NOT SIGN (signing ) OR PASS ANY LEGISLATION … “SORT OF LIKE ” IF THE GLOVE DOES NOT FIT, YOU MUST ACQUIT”
I AM TIRED OF CONGRESS RATIFING BILLS THAT AFFECT AND EFFECT MY LIFE AND THOSE OF OTHER CITIZENS, VOTING YEH AND NOT EVEN READING THE INSTRUMENT THAT WILL BE A LAW OR POLICY AND WILL HAVE CONSEQUENCES FAR REACHING INTO OUR FUTURE AND THE FUTURE OF COMING GENERATIONS. EACH VOTING MEMBER SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO INDICATE WHETHER THEY HAVE READ THE BILL. THEY SHOULD ALSO BE SUBJECT TO SPOT CHECK QUIZES TO ASCERTAIN THE TRUTHFULNESS OF THEIR CLAIM. WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE THEY GETTING PAID FOR AND HAVING ALL KINDS OF “GOLDEN PARACHUTES” AND RETIREMENT AND MEDICAL PLANS…READING THEIR BILLS IS THE LEAST THEY COULD DO. THAT IS THEIR JOB…THEY THINK THEIR JOB IS TO MERELY VOTE..AND VOTE IN A WAY THAT BENEFITS THIER ADVANCEMENT AND SPECIAL INTERESTS…WHAT ABOUT OUR (THE CITIZENS INTEREST AND BENEIT)
PLEASE WILL ANYONE READING THIS E-MAIL, OFFER AN OPINION AND ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO WORD AND CIRCULATE THIS TYPE OF PETITION…IF THEY MAKE THE EXCUSE THAT THE BILLS ARE TOO MANY PAGES TO READ..THEN THEY NEED TO FIND A WAY TO CONSOLIDATE THE INSTUMENTS OR SEPARATE THE ISSUES THAT ARE CLUMPED TOGETHER FOR THEIR BENEFIT AND SNEAKING IN THEIR PET PROJECTS.
    PLEASE RESPOND TO MCTOOL01@AOL.COM…..PATRICIA O”TOOLE
