El Presidente has some potentially earth-shaking news (for active lovers of liberty and the handful of Colorado political insiders who are paying attention at this point, that is): Despite the weak and transparent efforts of the liberal Dead Governors to marginalize his campaign with ridicule, Aurora city councilman Ryan Frazier not only won but dominated the competition in a U.S. Senate straw poll among the conservative Douglas County GOP faithful (complete with video of Frazier’s Saturday speech at the Douglas County Lincoln Day dinner).
Other names in the straw poll included former Congressman Bob Beauprez, popular radio talk show host Dan Caplis, Weld County district attorney Ken Buck, and businessman Cleve Tidwell.
This result follows on the heels of Rocky Mountain Right’s February straw poll in which Ryan Frazier edged Mark Hillman (now officially a non-candidate) as Colorado Republican insiders’ favorite for the U.S. Senate nomination.
How do you spell Momentum?
As national pundits look to 2010 and one of the hottest U.S. Senate races on the political radar, it will become difficult from now on to talk about the race against selected Senator Michael Bennet without prominently mentioning the name Ryan Frazier.
Really a humorous poll since he was the only candidate allowed to speak at that meeting I wa told. Seems Your paper has a lot to learn about us real Republicans and maybe even Douglas County,
Not to mention I don’t really think his same sex marriage approval and adding millions to our taxes with the pushing the same sex benefits in the government will set to good with republicans. He is way to liberal to be running for senate, maybe governor of our liberal state but no way for senate.
Best we wait and see who really has the support and the interest of the party at heart.
Obviously someone in Douglas has a wish list and supporting someone. Amazing what papers write to try and sway voters, We are smarter than that.
I think Ryan Frazier is a great potential candidate, but don’t count out Cleve Tidwell.
I was just as inspired and impressed by Mr. Tidwell’s speeches as I was Mr. Frazier’s. The fact that he is just starting to build name recognition as a potential candidate himself explains for Mr. Tidwell’s low numbers, but he can really be a big contender!
Kattie, this is a blog reflecting my own personal views and opinions – not a “paper”. A blog written by a well-informed conservative GOP activist who is favorably impressed with Ryan Frazier at this time, but not ready to make any endorsements of any kind. Of course, we need to “wait and see who really has the support and the interest of the party at heart.” No one here is ready to coronate a candidate for the nomination. But I think your dismissal of any significance whatsoever to this straw poll speaks volumes – especially we don’t know where you’re coming from.

Oh, by the way, Ryan Frazier does not support or approve of redefining marriage to include same-sex couples.
Thanks, Patrick, for leaving your comment. I have met both Ryan Frazier and Cleve Tidwell, and am personally favorable to both of them. But at this point I see Ryan as a stronger candidate. My mind is still open, though.
