Over at Free Colorado, Ari Armstrong highlights the prominent role played by members of a local Liberty on the Rocks chapter in today’s NPR Morning Edition story (complete with audio).
Three LOTR members in particular responded to Obama’s speech last night on health care reform to a joint session of Congress. Quotes below…
Amanda Teresi on the conundrum of mandating coverage for pre-existing conditions:
The idea is that it’s health insurance. And the whole concept of insurance is that you get it before you become sick or before something happens to you. It would be the equivalent of not having any car insurance, hitting a tree, and then calling Geico saying that you want to sign up. It doesn’t make sense.
T.L. James on Obama’s tepid mention of tort reform:
Tort lawyers form an important of the Democratic power base, their funding base for their elections. There is no way that he’s going to do anything that’s going to turn them away from the Democratic Party.
Orin Ray on the general reaction to the speech:
I don’t think the President has really changed anybody’s mind tonight with his speech, to be honest, including me.
Liberty on the Rocks, meet NPR! I agree with Ari that the interview was “basically fair”. The format allowed the discussion to go a bit more in-depth than the soundbite reactions typically allowed for on televised newscasts.
