November Survey: Ken Buck’s Support Rises, Jane Norton Seen as Strongest

Posted on November 17th, 2009 in blogging, Colorado Politics, Fiscal Policy, General, Health Care, Judiciary, liberty, My Life, National Politics, PPC | No Comments »

Introducing the top-line results from the 3rd edition of the survey of Colorado’s political temperature. Participation dropped to 281, but results still demonstrated some remarkable consistency. As always, thanks to those of you who took the time to help out!

Coming later in the month will be an analysis of some key crosstabs and correlations. But for now here’s a quick rundown of the survey’s top-line results:

  • In the U.S. Senate race, with Ryan Frazier dropping out of the race, momentum has grown behind Ken Buck as the candidate with the most support and behind Jane Norton as the strongest candidate — an interesting dynamic given the credible rumors circulating at Rocky Mountain Right
  • Josh Penry was on track for his best showings in both support and perceived strength, before he withdrew from the governor’s race–reducing his lead in one column and erasing it in another
  • Ryan Frazier (7th Congressional), Cory Gardner (4th Congressional) and J.J. Ament (State Treasurer) have built strong leads in their respective races
  • Demographically speaking, the group of participants in this poll was slightly more Republican, older, male, married, and white than the September sample
  • Distaste for the “public option”, Bill Ritter’s management of state fiscal policy and Colorado Supreme Court partisanship grew even stronger
  • Confidence remains high that incumbents Ritter, appointed U.S. Senator Michael Bennet, and Congresswoman Betsy Markey all will be defeated in 2010, while incumbent status within the Republican Party and national party interference are viewed with even less respect

PPC Citizen Journalists Query Ed Perlmutter’s Office on Pelosi Care

So yes, my Representative Ed Perlmutter voted for the costly, restrictive monstrosity known as Pelosi Care (HR 3962). But how does he justify his positions? How did his office respond to last week’s House Call on Congress rally? And how were citizen-journalists from the People’s Press Collective received when they came to discuss Perlmutter’s position on the legislation? I was planning to post a notice today about the need to take action against the Pelosi version of Obama Care. And today is the time to do it! But being busy, I got permission to paste this email (with a couple slight tweaks) from a friend:

Hello to all!

If you want tax dollars funding abortions and for medical coverage to become less available, now is the time to do nothing! The house version of the health care “reform” bill will come up for a vote tomorrow (Saturday). (more…)

The Tea Party Express rolls into Denver today for a 5 PM Election Day 2009 rally featuring Joe The Plumber. Angry about the Pelosi-Obama health care monstrosity? Fed up with the billions in “stimulus” money that’s done so little for jobs and the economy?

Here’s your chance to show your support for limited government, liberty and fiscal responsibility:

Date/Time:

Tuesday, November 3rd at 5:00 pm

Rally Location:
Civic Center – Greek Theater
100 W 14th Ave
Denver, CO 80204

As Joshua points out, today is a busy day of important elections (not to mention the school board election here in Jefferson County) here in Colorado and back East. If you are able to vote in one of these important races (or know someone who is) and haven’t yet, there’s no time to delay further.

Pelosi’s Version of Obama Care “Worst Bill Ever”? Close Enough to Reject

Posted on November 2nd, 2009 in clean government, Colorado Politics, Fiscal Policy, General, Health Care, liberty, National Politics, PPC | 1 Comment »

Is Nancy Pelosi’s 2,000-page version of Obama Care “the worst bill ever” — as the editors of the Wall Street Journal describe it? I doubt it. After all, that’s some pretty stiff competition. But if you’re busy having to defend the so-called health care reform legislation from the charge of “worst bill ever,” the Democrats in charge of Congress risk a massive political backlash in 2010.

Will my own Congressman Ed Perlmutter vote for the deficit spending, middle-class taxes, rationed care, and greater government control of medicine? If so, he’d better be watching out for Republican Ryan Frazier — who quite ably lays out the top 12 reasons to reject Nancy Pelosi’s health care monstrosity.

Bill Ritter Bait-and-Switch Continues … Desperate? Unethical? Incompetent?

Posted on October 31st, 2009 in clean government, Colorado Politics, Education, Fiscal Policy, General, Health Care, My Life, National Politics, PPC | 2 Comments »

Update, 11/2: Another campaign email from Ritter begging multiple times for contributions, with only a brief passing mention of “improving the quality of our children’s education” …. Yes, that’s one bait-and-switch online petition.

The Bill Ritter email bait-and-switch continues. Three weeks ago, during my first and only ever contact on Bill Ritter’s website, I signed an online petition urging “the U.S. Department of Education to recognize Colorado’s distinct education reform initiatives, and to award Colorado a ‘Race to the Top’ grant….”

What followed within the first couple weeks were a pair of emails from Ritter urging me to take action in support of Obama Care. Did it occur to anyone in the Bill Ritter re-election office that just because I or anyone might agree with some aspects of the governor’s education reform efforts that it doesn’t mean I’m also a fan of increasing government intervention in the health care system?

But the bait-and-switch continues…. (more…)

Has John Salazar’s Support of Obama Care Invited a Scott Tipton Challenge?

Posted on October 30th, 2009 in clean government, Colorado Politics, General, Health Care, liberty, National Politics, PPC | No Comments »

(H/T Complete Colorado) The Grand Junction Sentinel reported yesterday that Colorado 3rd District Democratic Congressman John Salazar has opted to back Nancy Pelosi and the Party leadership’s attempt to push a government health care takeover.

Might this development be enough to prompt a repeat challenge from a strong conservative like state Rep. Scott Tipton? My guess is yes, it will. Colorado may have three competitive challenges to Congressional Democrat incumbents in 2010. Stay tuned.

Evading Serious Questions Ties Bill Ritter and Obama Nominee Villafuerte

Posted on October 24th, 2009 in clean government, Colorado Politics, Education, General, Health Care, liberty, National Politics, PPC | No Comments »

President Obama’s nomination of Stephanie Villafuerte to be Colorado’s next U.S. Attorney has put Governor Bill Ritter in an unwanted situation. Serious questions remain unanswered about Villafuerte’s role in the political smear of federal ICE agent Cory Voorhis during the 2006 election that led to his near conviction. But Ritter thinks it’s too much trouble for us to bother with the questions now:

She also declined to answer questions this week about whether she provided the FBI with a complete accounting of any contacts she had with the DA’s office about [illegal immigrant Carlos] Estrada-Medina. A message and detailed e-mail left by The Post for Villafuerte were returned instead by Evan Dreyer, spokesman for Ritter. He said Villa fuerte, now Ritter’s deputy chief of staff, would not comment until possibly after she is confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Colorado’s top federal law enforcement official.

“When it’s over, she may be more able to talk,” Dreyer said.

Villafuerte may be more able to talk when it’s over? As if the confirmation process is a mere formality, and the issues raised aren’t of a serious nature? (more…)

Support for Education Reform Funds = Support for Bill Ritter’s Re-Election?

Posted on October 21st, 2009 in clean government, Colorado Politics, Education, Fiscal Policy, General, Health Care, liberty, My Life, National Politics, PPC | No Comments »

Update, 10/24: Received a third pro-Obama Care email from Bill Ritter (and Mark Udall and Michael Bennet) today, still nothing on education reform …

Colorado Governor Bill Ritter has a page set up where you can sign a petition to support the state’s effort to receive federal Race to the Top competitive grant dollars that support education reform. If you sign the petition, you end up on some sort of mailing list for Ritter’s re-election campaign. In the two weeks since I signed the petition I’ve received two mass emails urging me to back Obama Care!

Here’s the complete text of the online petition: (more…)

Ed Perlmutter’s Health Care Solution: Raise Taxes, More Government

Posted on October 20th, 2009 in clean government, Colorado Politics, Fiscal Policy, General, Health Care, liberty, National Politics, PPC | 1 Comment »

As the political stomach turns … My Democratic Congressman Ed Perlmutter wants to raise taxes (H/T Complete Colorado) on investments to pay for government health care. As if that will do anything but further slow down America’s economic engine and further erode your personal medical freedoms.

Don’t just get angry. Put your support behind one of our good Republican candidates running to oust Perlmutter: Ryan Frazier or Brian Campbell.

Amanda Teresi’s Case for Free Market Health Reform: Not Just Provocative

Posted on October 8th, 2009 in Fiscal Policy, General, Health Care, liberty, National Politics, PPC | 1 Comment »

A few weeks ago, Liberty on the Rocks founder Amanda Teresi made a provocative statement to an NPR reporter about health reform after Obama’s big speech before Congress.

Today Amanda provides an extended explanation of her remarks in a special guest column for the Colorado Springs Gazette. Here’s a key excerpt:

It is true that many people today with pre-existing conditions have trouble finding affordable coverage. But politicians, not a free market, created the problem.

Just another provocative statement, you say? Well, check out the whole thing. And drop in on a Liberty on the Rocks near you — or if there isn’t one near you, contact Amanda to find out how to get a chapter started.
