What I’m Thankful for #5: The Sacrifices of Our Nation’s Many Heroes

This is one in a series of daily posts I conceived of writing many weeks ago while the election still raged on, as I looked for something to write about of more lasting value. The weeks leading up to Thanksgiving seemed perfectly appropriate for it. Just in case you wondered, the topics introduced are not necessarily in any particular order. I hope the series is of some small encouragement to you, even as my site traffic takes a dive. This was the logical choice for a deep expression of gratitude on Veterans' Day. It's a good time to recognize the millions who have worn the uniform, who have served in peacetime or war to defend our nation. God has given us liberty, but it is the brave members of our military who have fought to preserve … [Read more...]

Rehashing Obama’s Equivocations

Mary Katherine Ham's excellent video reminds us in just a few short minutes why Barack Obama's long string of equivocations on issues great and small adds up to a lack of leadership. Let me also pass on American Princess' warning to her readers: "Prepare to vomit." … [Read more...]

Los Angeles Times Should Release Barack Obama-Rashid Khalidi Video

Let me add my small blog voice to the growing crowd: The Los Angeles Times needs to release the video that supposedly shows Barack Obama "toasting a terrorist" (and not in the nuclear vaporization sort of way, either). As Little Green Footballs points out, the infamous figure in question is former PLO spokesman Rashid Khalidi. RedState has the latest in the form of a Fox News report: No one can credibly deny that the media establishment is in the tank for Barack Obama. If there's nothing to see, a public vetting of the video would dispel the rumors. But the longer the Times clings to it, the more legitimate suspicion grows. And the Times' excuses for not releasing the video don't hold much water. All appearances indicate they are … [Read more...]

Channeling the Late Milton Friedman’s Insights on Current Market Crisis

Wondering what's going on with the current crisis in the financial markets? Friedman Foundation senior fellow Greg Forster channels the late great economist Milton Friedman via an article written by William F. Buckley during the stock market tumble of 1987. It's worth a read. I'd like to believe Friedman's assessments then apply to today's situation. He's been right about so many other things. But Julia Dunraven at Slapstick Politics has a more pessimistic view, with a lot of the numbers to back it up. Then again, maybe they're both right. … [Read more...]

Rocky Mountain News Supports Amendment 49 for Basic “Fairness”

The editors of the Rocky Mountain News slam the deception of Protect Colorado's Future (previously covered here and here), and give a major thumbs up to Amendment 49 on Colorado's ballot:As you may have guessed, we support Amendment 49 - just as we previously supported various versions of this policy at the local level. It would block state and local government agencies from deducting dues or fees from employee paychecks for unions or other membership groups.... The free deduction and collection of dues is a special benefit denied to most other worthy civic organizations. Should Amendment 49 pass, unions and other organizations benefiting from free collections would simply share the same fundraising challenges that other groups … [Read more...]

Seriously … Joe Biden?

Update: Another Colorado blogger added to the list below Barack Obama picked Joe Biden as his running mate ... seriously? When I first heard the news late last night, it sounded too good to be true. My first reaction was that Obama must have made the pick from an insecurity about Obama's personal and political weaknesses. Example? There's no way Biden's long-winded, incoherent ramblings could upstage the Obamessiah's cultish appeal at this week's Democratic National Convention. Beyond the DNC, what does Barack Obama have to look forward to in having Joe Biden as a running mate? What do we really know about Biden? Here's a quick rundown from Colorado bloggers: … [Read more...]

American Victory Coalition Patriotic Rally in Denver on Sunday, Aug. 24

It's good to see a breath of fresh air and common sense coming to Denver to counter the sea of Moonbat protesters drawn to the Democratic National Convention like moths to a flame. The American Victory Coalition is holding a patriotic rally in support of our troops and victory at Denver's Pioneer Monument Park on Sunday, August 24, from 10 am to 2 pm. Go here to find more details on speakers, security, suggestion for what to bring, and other details like parking and transportation. … [Read more...]

Canadian Parents, Beware

Say what? As absurd as some of our court decisions seem to be, the Euro-wannabes north of the border have trumped us when it comes to sheer lunacy (H/T Doug Bandow):A recent court decision in Canada should send chills down every parent’s spine. The ruling is so out of bounds that the news story sounds like a parody — but it isn’t. A Canadian judge ruled that a 12-year-old girl was “excessively” punished when her father told her she could not go on a school camping trip because she had broken rules for use of the Internet. O Canada, the nation with tribunals that enforce politically-correct government censorship of speech, now gives us micromanagement of parental responsibilities. Wherever Canada is, I fear the United States is … [Read more...]

Ethiopian Journalist Tells Story of His Persecution and Flight to U.S.

A month ago I made a very unique friend in Habtamu Dugo, the persecuted Ethiopian journalist who had just fled to the United States from the repressive regime in his homeland. Today, the Independence Institute has released a 5-minute video in which Habtamu tells his compelling story. More on the video at Jon Caldara's blog. … [Read more...]
