Tom DeLay is returning to his seat on the Appropriations Committee now that he is gone for good as House majority leader. The Denver Post might want to make a second attempt to get to the bottom of this story: Forti's counterparts at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee are not actively recruiting military veterans, spokeswoman Sarah Steinberg said. "They absolutely serve a very good contrast against Republicans," she said. "But in every district, our goal is to recruit the best possible candidate we can." During this past week, I renewed my determination to make a conscious effort this yuletide season to keep Christ & Christmas as prominent as possible. I don't want to get caught in the trap of the bland, insipid, politically correct "Happy Holidays" & "Seasons Greetings". Courtesy of the Education Intelligence Agency, revelations about an enclave of Communists gathering for regular lunch meetings inside the headquarters of the nation's largest teachers union. That National Education Association (NEA) cafeteria sure caters to a diverse crowd. With the introduction of its new "Proletariat Lunch Program," NEA may be looking to expand its aggressive lobbying efforts. My First (and hopefully only) Harriet Miers Post
I have kept silence on Harriet Miers, largely agnostic but increasingly skeptical as the weeks wore on. I was startled that the withdrawal of her nomination came so suddenly, and I can't say I'm as disappointed as Mr. Hewitt is. One of his linchpin arguments in support of Miers has been that most of the party's base in Red State America supported her - primarily the Beltway elites were leading the anti-Miers charge. Gas Pump Observations
Perhaps I'm giving away my youth and inexperience, but I don't remember the long gas lines that accompanied the oil shortages of the late 1970s. Not to say that now is in any way comparable to those days, but I witnessed a renewed clarity of consumer consciousness at the gas station on my way home tonight. Knowing the Buick's tank was lagging in the fuel department, I've been putting off the necessity for the past few days, burying my head as the cost of gasoline skyrockets. Nevertheless, the car was nearing empty, so I planned a stop this evening at a Wheat Ridge gas station noted for its relatively low prices. The President's nomination of John Roberts to fill Justice O'Connor's vacancy on the Supreme Court - the first such change in 11 years - is such an intriguing and momentous development that I thought I'd take a moment to survey what some of the leading bloggers are saying about it. Tancredo Won’t Back Down
Despite Hugh's strong admonition and best hopes, Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo won't back down from his irresponsible and increasingly infamous "bomb Mecca" comments. He demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of our enemy and what strategic objective could be accomplished by even floating the idea as a potential deterrent: In an interview, Tancredo said he did not intend to offend moderate Muslims, whom he calls the "best hope" of bringing terrorists to justice.
