The Detroit Tigers have dispatched the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series with a convincing 8-3 victory at Comerica Park today. Great pitching beats "the greatest lineup ever." The $195 million Yankee nation payroll humbled by Motown's finest. My friends, I am all smiles on this fine day. Hats off to great Tiger pitching - Jeremy Bonderman, Justin Verlander, Joel Zumaya, Jamie Walker, Todd Jones, and "The Gambler" Kenny Rogers. In the last 3 contests the pathetic pinstripes mounted only 6 runs compared to Detroit's 18. Everyone in the lineup contributed to the series victory, but it seems fitting and proper to mention each one by name - Curtis Granderson, Placido Polanco, Sean Casey, Magglio Ordonez, Carlos Guillen, … [Read more...]
Pizza Guy for Governor
Last Friday night my wife & I saw a gubernatorial candidate delivering pizza to our neighbors across the street. I heard you snickering over there ... what, you don't believe me? Who was it, you might ask? Not this guy (I doubt he's STILL paying off law school debt), and definitely not this guy (I'm sure his staff has realized personal pizza deliveries do not belong in a successful campaign). Maybe you're scratching your head. No, it's not "the only pro-choice candidate for Governor of Colorado" (presumably no relation to the Fonz, though Libertarians might get more votes with him on the ticket). Keep guessing ... If you thought it was this guy, you might have imagined a very colorful waltz from the car to the front door, with … [Read more...]
GOP Super Saturday: Jeffco Style
Poll numbers for Colorado Republicans have been less favorable than any would like to see, but in the crucial weeks leading up to the 2006 election the Party is putting another weapon into play: volunteers. I was pleased to see several dozen volunteers show up at GOP Victory Headquarters in Wheat Ridge this morning to see Rick O'Donnell and the legendary Hugh Hewitt. After a brief rally, volunteers split up to work their separate state house districts - dropping literature, making phone calls, stuffing mailers. I was told many more volunteers who never showed up at Victory HQ went to work hitting the streets this morning. Jeffco's big "Super Saturday" volunteer push is part of a statewide GOP effort. So if you're a registered Colorado … [Read more...]
In Case You Missed It…
...And really want to hear me talk with Jon Caldara on yesterday's Mike Rosen Show about the Secretary of State's new rules, the podcast version is up on the 850 KOA site. Go to the Rosen Replay page and look for the following description: Misleading ads try to prevent union members from having ability to refuse to have their dues go for political causes. I share this announcement not because I think readers will be enthralled with the dulcet tones of my radio voice but that you will latch onto this important information and pass it on. … [Read more...]
On the Rosen Show
I will be on the air with guest host Jon Caldara at 11 AM today to talk about the Colorado Secretary of State's new rules that recognize individual rights to determine whether their dues money should be spent on political campaigns. The information is highlighted on the Independence Institute's new educational Web site - TheyMustAsk.com. You can listen live to the radio show by going to the 850 KOA Web site. For the most recent developments related top this story, please read Peter Blake's column in Saturday's Rocky Mountain News. Then ask yourself: what can you learn about a group whose leaders would protest having to ask your permission before spending your money on the political campaigns they choose? You decide. … [Read more...]

Little Virtus: Cutest “Weepublican” Ever
Jim has already posted about the Sunday RMA picnic here and posted a couple pictures here. Richie D also posted on the event here. It was a good time had by all, but in my humble and honest opinion, this is the best picture of all from Sunday's picnic. Let two things be known here and now: 1) That her fair appearance is overwhelmingly a product of her mother's genes; and 2) That being a daddy is the best job I've ever had. … [Read more...]
Special Game for My Tigers
Not often do I write about my Detroit Tigers' ongoing special season, one that has far more than revived the franchise from a decade-plus of the doldrums. But last night's 10-4 victory over Tampa Bay hit so many milestones that it's impossible to ignore: Shortstop Carlos Guillen became the 10th Tiger in franchise history to hit for the cycle Rookie phenom Justin Verlander became the first Major League pitcher to reach 14 wins in 2006 In his first game in a Tigers uniform, new first baseman Sean Casey belted a home run and drove in two runs Temporary call-up outfielder Brent Clevlen hit his first two career home runs, pushing his two-game batting average to .625 With 56 games remaining in the season, Detroit tied last season's … [Read more...]
Go Get ‘Em, Tigers!
As a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan who has lived through many years of painful mediocrity and worse, I am really enjoying this season's developments. At about the midway point of the 2006 campaign, it seemed like another good time to pause and reflect on a few pertinent facts: 1. The Detroit Tigers not only lead the American League Central division, they have the best record in the American League and all of Major League Baseball - and have been in that position for many weeks now. 2. Detroit (56-26) is 2.5 games ahead of the world champion Chicago White Sox, 4.5 games ahead of the Boston Red Sox, 7.5 games ahead of the National League's best New York Mets, 8.5 games ahead of the New York Yankees, 10 games ahead of the very hot … [Read more...]
