This is off topic from what I usually write about here. But after tonight’s 1-2 knockout of Missouri & West Virginia, I think college football fans of all political stripes can agree that the time for a playoff system is now! No matter who ends up being selected for the BCS Championship Game at the end of this wackiest of all seasons, unending controversy will ensue. If it leads us to a playoff system next year, it will be well worth the result.

I agree–Hawaii is the only unbeaten team now, and has no shot at the national championship. It would, however, be included in a playoff scenario, and it would be interesting to see how a team like that matched up against Ohio State. Had Missouri and West Virginia not lost, that in itself would be an interesting if unexpected matchup. Playoffs can only add to the excitement–and reduce the uncertainty.
I’m all for rivalries, but I prefer seeing odd pairings of teams before conference play and in bowl games. Seeing CU play Arizona State and Florida State this year was great, even if unsuccessful. I wish more of the big teams, the ones consistently ranked, would be as adventurous. Teams like Nebraska and Michigan line their non-conference schedule with patsies (although this year, they both fell), and I think the rivalries get old. Going from the Big 8 to Big 12 format forced us to rotate Oklahoma and Texas, so CU always has an interesting schedule. The other conferences are more boring.
