Amanda Teresi’s Case for Free Market Health Reform: Not Just Provocative
A few weeks ago, Liberty on the Rocks founder Amanda Teresi made a provocative statement to an NPR reporter about health reform after Obama's big speech before Congress. Today Amanda provides an extended explanation of her remarks in a special guest column for the Colorado Springs Gazette. Here's a key excerpt:It is true that many people today with pre-existing conditions have trouble finding affordable coverage. But politicians, not a free market, created the problem. Just another provocative statement, you say? Well, check out the whole thing. And drop in on a Liberty on the Rocks near you -- or if there isn't one near you, contact Amanda to find out how to get a chapter started. … [Read more...]

Update II, 12:30 PM: Minor tweak to the governor's race … [Read more...]
Conservative Guv Candidate Tom Tancredo Reaffirms Backing of Scott Gessler for Secretary of State
For those still wondering how third-party conservative gubernatorial candidate Tom Tancredo is more likely to govern -- at least when the choice is between showing support and loyalty to a highly qualified and credible Republican or an American Constitution Party spoiler -- it was encouraging to see today's release: … [Read more...]
Western Conservative Summit: Reflections and Ruminations
Joshua has a great rundown of this past weekend's Western Conservative Summit. I was there for most of the day on Saturday, but unfortunately not able to catch the festivities of Friday evening or Sunday morning. Judging especially by the descriptions of the Michelle Bachmann and Arthur Brooks presentations, I regret missing them most of all. The personal highlight for the lovely Mrs. Virtus and I was the opportunity to hear Dennis Prager's enlightening and insightful address. He brings a lot of well-stated wisdom to the table, along with a genuine self-deprecating humor that endears him to the crowd. Even having heard his American Trinity discussed before, the speech never lost my attention. It was an excellent evening. A very … [Read more...]
Video: Michael Bennet’s Infamous Card Check Indecision Lingers On…
My good friend Amanda from Liberty on the Rocks is at it again, this time asking our appointed U.S. Senator Michael Bennet where he stands on the union card check issue: Michael Bennet has been stuck in indecision on the union card check issue almost since the day he was appointed to office a year and a half ago. Maybe the junior senator figured he doesn't have to answer the question because he cast a backdoor vote for card check via the Craig Becker nomination back in February -- but still losing some Big Labor backing to his primary rival Andrew Romanoff. At least by that time next year we have good reason to hope Bennet won't have to worry any more about constituents pestering him for his opinion on such issues. Leaving behind … [Read more...]

My Young Free Market Friends Showcase New Online Political Activism
The Saturday edition of the Rocky Mountain News featured the proverbial quadrennial story about the energized youth vote. Do we have reason to believe that more young voters will cast their ballots this year? I don't know. But one of my young free market friends astutely suggests that the state of the economy has re-engaged many of them:Wesley Dickinson, a 30-year-old Denver engineer, thinks the economy is forcing people near his age to confront politics more so than at any time since the 1970s economic downturn created a generation of Reagan Republicans. Since then, people have been able to live relatively comfortably and didn't care so much about what the government did; that no longer is true, he said. "They haven't had to worry … [Read more...]
Yes, Virginia, ACORN’s Voter Registration Fraud Leads to Vote Fraud
Update: Blue Collar Muse answers more liberal efforts to shift blame from ACORN, and provides a boatload more evidence. And Palestra documents more sinister voting activity connected with the Obama campaign in Ohio. It's hard to keep up with all the evidence pouring forth. A liberal denizen of my comments section likes to repeat the claim that ACORN's repeated acts of voter registration fraud are harmless, that I shouldn't waste my time writing about it, and that he is so bored by the topic that he just has to keep commenting on it. Yes, the same ACORN under FBI investigation that prominently endorsed the deceptive issue campaign Protect Colorado's Culture of Corruption Future. But then you look at New Mexico, and you see where … [Read more...]
