Nancy Pelosi Confuses “Sacred” Eco-Theology Text with Old Testament

Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has conjured up a Scriptural passage from whole cloth to sanction her Left-liberal environmentalist agenda:

Nancy Pelosi

In her April 22 Earth Day news release, Pelosi said, “The Bible tells us in the Old Testament, ‘To minister to the needs of God’s creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us.’ On this Earth Day, and every day, let us pledge to our children, and our children’s children, that they will have clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and the opportunity to experience the wonders of nature.”

Cybercast News Service repeatedly queried the speaker’s office for two days to determine where the alleged Bible quote is found. Thus far, no one has responded.

Distinguished biblical scholars, however, cast doubt on the existence of the passage.

Not that biblical scholars necessarily had to be consulted to disprove the obvious, but they all unanimously point out that nothing approximating such a passage exists – and one even called it “fictional.” (Michelle Malkin links to other bloggers commenting on the subject.)

It’s bad enough when the Church of Eco-Theology quotes the frightening pronouncements of the High Goracle ex cathedra, in spite of countervailing scientific evidence.

But when Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi invents a Bible verse to manufacture Divine approval of the Church of Eco-Theology’s agenda, she’s crossed the line into the realm of elitist absurdity. Maybe she just confused the Judeo-Christian Scriptures with her own Church’s sacred texts. For some, it’s apparently easy to do.

From Pelosi’s point of view, though, maybe those of us out here bitterly clinging to our religion just are too closed-minded to accept a more living, breathing, self-expressive version of holy writ. We don’t see why the real Bible is off-limits for informing the moral standards of public debate, while an imaginary Bible verse can sanction a radical eco-agenda. Then again, we aren’t among the “enlightened” classes of the liberal San Francisco cocktail party fundraising crowd.

At least Gov. Bill Ritter doesn’t pretend to quote Scripture to justify his economically destructive “climate change” policies.

I don’t think Ms. Pelosi was going for a Bushism…but she should have made it clear that she was paraphrasing…because she would be condemned if she tried to make us think the Bible actually says that.

Believe me, I was all lined up to throw the first stone, but after actually looking at some verses, I find that what Ms. Pelosi paraphrased is actually quite correct and can be found in the Holy Bible.

    Peace,
